It was really fun to discover this area around Cape Horn in the Columbia River Gorge with Liz & Gerardo on such a stunning day! They were so enthusiastic about exploring this unique location, despite it being near freezing and more than a little windy. Such are the sacrifices we make for a beautiful mid-winter day in the Pacific Northwest!
Luanne and Daniel’s Hampton’s wedding was recently featured on Well Wed Magazine’s blog, so we thought we would share a few more from this couple’s art-deco & 1920′s inspired celebration! We loved our time in the Hamptons, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Lu & Dan’s families. Jewish weddings are a blast to photograph, with all of their ceremonies throughout the day & opportunities for group celebration, and we were there to catch it all from the Tisch & Bedecken to the Ketubah signing and their modern ceremony & reception! Everything was held at the groom’s family’s home in Bridgehampton, and Luanne did an amazing job of designing the whole yard for a Gatsby-eque garden party. To top it all off, Luanne had a great idea for a twenties-inspired photobooth. After some collaboration, we created our first-ever “man-in-the-moon” photobooth, which was definitely a hit!

Ihave always wanted to shoot an engagement session on a ferry, and finally got a chance to do so just after Christmas! Zachary & Lynn were up from Arizona visiting family in Tacoma for the holidays, and wanted to shoot in a setting very different than what they were used to back home. Riding a ferry and walking the beaches of Puget Sound seemed like just the ticket. Somewhat miraculously, we were even treated to dry skies and a bit of sun! They must have brought a bit of the desert weather vibes with them. We had a great time, and as a bonus got to watch a baby seal on the beach & a sea otter having lunch. Thumbs-up, Pacific Northwest!!
We love living in a region where it’s easy get out in country surrounded by nature for the afternoon, and then dine on amazing local food in the city later that same evening. John and Nicole’s unique celebration followed this format, starting with a ceremony at Oregon’s Champoeg State Park in the Willamette Valley followed by a rooftop reception and family-style dinner in downtown Portland at the Ecotrust Building. These contrasting settings were inspired by a desire to blend the backgrounds of this couple, and a bit of family history. Nicole’s parents met 30 years earlier at the exact spot of the wedding ceremony, and Nicole & John now call Portland home. She was raised in a small town near Champoeg, and John in the city. They also wanted to celebrate this best-of-both-worlds vibe that Portland does so well.
As for that canoe, if you get married at one of Oregon’s most historic sites, you may just have to get your explorer-pose on (thanks to some generous local boaters passing by)!
I met with Katie and Daniel this Summer on Sauvie Island while they were in town on a visit. It was fun to get to know them while we explored the orchards and fields of flowers, and I am really looking forward to photographing their Mt. Hood wedding this Spring!
Photographing Kasey & Jeff amidst the beauty of this stark Oregon desert landscape was worth battling the over-100-degree heat! Their wedding took place on Kasey’s parent’s ranch near Rufus, Oregon.
When Margaret asked if, instead of a traditional location-based engagement shoot, I might be interested in joining them for a zoobomb ride through downtown Portland ending up at Por Que No for margaritas, it took me about .012345 seconds to answer with a resounding “Yes!” Moral of the story: if you have an idea for a photoshoot that is unique to you, please let us know because we are all for it. If that idea involves a healthy dose of adventure, I’m in it 120%! (ex: here is the setup I used on a few of these photos).
Emily & Casey are two of the most exuberant & fun-loving people we have ever met, and their wedding at Ft. Vancouver’s Marshall House reflected this in every way. These two know how to have fun! They celebrated at a charming & colorful backyard reception that included hula-hooping, a rockin’ photobooth, and lots of noisemakers on the dance-floor!
