I was more than happy to play mid-summer tour-guide for Courtney & John during their recent visit to Portland. We are really looking forward to photographing their wedding next year!
A bit of rain didn’t keep this lovely couple from enjoying the gorgeous grounds of Domaine Margelle or from having an amazing celebration with their closest friends. Nadia of Creations by Ly designed an exquisite event, including the flowers and the bride’s outstanding head-piece. A big thanks goes out to Kelly Wilde for shooting with me and braving a few thunderstorms, some of the work below is hers.
The recent return of rain here in western Oregon seems an appropriate time to share this wonderful Columbia Gorge wedding at Gorge Crest Vineyards. Historically, the weather towards the end of September can go either way. If the sun is out, it is one of the most beautiful times of the year here, but the chance that it will be stormy is just as strong as the chance for sunny skies–and sometimes we have both in the same day.
Although there wasn’t much rain on Matt & Katie’s wedding day, the majority of it fell during the ceremony, starting with impeccable timing right as the bride walked down the isle. In true Oregonian spirit, they embraced the crazy weather and the harder it rained, the larger their smiles became. Everyone reveled in their joy & the visceral experience of sitting in the rain watching storm clouds roll over the Columbia river and the mountain range beyond.
That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day, and it was an awesome celebration! I particularly loved the dramatic skies we were able to capture for our “sunset” photos. A big thanks to Roger Porter for photographing with me & putting up with a bit of drizzle.
Margaret & Jeremiah’s beautiful wedding at the luxurious & rustic House on Metolius was recently featured on Style Me Pretty, and we just had to share a little more about this fabulous wedding. House on Metolius is one of the most magical venues we have every experienced, and the energy between this couple, and the love that surrounded them, was no less magical. Set in the heart of Oregon’s Central Cascades, the House on Metolius is actually a historic ranch property on the banks of the Metolius River, which springs out of the ground at it’s source just a few miles from the wedding site. The property includes both rustic cabins and a gorgeous prairie-style main lodge where the wedding party and guests spent the entire weekend hiking, fishing, and relaxing with awesome views of Mt. Jefferson.
The wedding day itself was an intensely personal celebration, with a small group gathered in a field on the banks of the river & the resident cattle herd listening in the distance (which is just what Margaret wanted!). Everything was imbued with the couple’s DIY aesthetic and their love of all things local and Northwest. The father of the bride made a dozen blackberry pies the morning of the wedding, with his own perfected recipe. The bride hand-sewed many of the decorations. A mid-summer supper was served family-style on a rickety deck jutting over the river, and everyone danced the night away under the stars!
This Columbia River Gorge wedding at Husum Highlands B&B included all of the best aspects of the Gorge: a beautiful country setting, orchards, sweeping mountain views, good food & drink, and plenty of sunshine! When I first met Katie & Joe, we instantly bonded over our mutual love for this landscape and all that comes with it. (Including all of the awesome outdoor recreation!) It was an honor to document their wedding in this place that is so meaningful to both of us. We kept joking with each that we may end up neighbors in the Gorge one day, and I don’t think that’s too far of a stretch of the imagination. Let’s just say we wouldn’t be disappointed if that happened!
After Chris & Jestina’s wedding, we will gladly add “working Christmas tree farm” to our list of unique Oregon wedding venues. Merrywood Farm is a true gem, and somewhat “undiscovered” when it comes to the Portland wedding world. We would absolutely love to shoot here again. The owners were amazingly gracious, and not only do you have access to the entire forested farm, but they have multiple barns filled with an array of antiques and collectibles. It’s perfect for the couple looking for a laid-back venue with tons of vintage-rustic charm. Which is exactly what Chris & Jestina were looking for… that, and excellent food. Their dinner was catered by mobile bbq masters, Rip City Grill, and afterwards guests were treated to both Gelato, and a Liege Waffle station! Jestina & Chris, thank you for feeding me so well and for being such wonderful people.
If you can’t tell by her sparkling smile and quick laughter, Laurie is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet; and Dan is one of the most genuine & sincere people you will ever meet. Together, they make a great combo, and this was approved whole-heartedly by their family and friends on their wedding day. I had a wonderful time getting to know these two and feel fortunate to now call them friends.
Kathy and Yan-Yu contacted us to photograph their simple & sweet US wedding ceremony, which was attended by a handful of their closest friends. Although they are both from Taiwan, this couple chose to have their legal ceremony in the city where they met and now call home. They also plan to have a major celebration & Taiwanese ceremony with most of their family & friends. We had a great time making these images in one of Portland’s most iconic parks.
The modern & rustic barn at the Kelley Farm was an amazing backdrop for Lynn & Zach’s June wedding. A big thanks to Boone Rodriguez for bringing his skills up to Washington & shooting this with me. We had a blast documenting this celebration & getting to know Lynn & Zach, and their friends & family!
Coordination by Coral Pentacost at New Beginnings Bridal Studio.
Lisa & Matthew travelled from San Francisco all the way to the top of Mt. Hood (literally—Matthew & his groomsmen almost made it to the summit the day before the wedding) to celebrate their marriage with family and friends. We photograph quite a few weddings at Timberline Lodge, and this one is the winner for the most incredible men’s-detail: Matthew commissioned a silver-smith in Montana to create he and the groomsmen’s belt buckles with the Timberline logo! These gentlemen perfectly pulled off the rodeo-buckle/fine-suit combo. Trend-alert!
