Some couples meet through friends, or online, or even at a bar. Well, John & Bridie met on a boat at a sailing race. Needless to say, there wasn’t much doubt about how we should approach their engagement photos. We met up on a long Summer evening and got out and set sail on the Willamette River just outside downtown Portland for some truly unique photos. Their wedding also proved to be one of our most unique of the year, so stay tuned!
The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine just released it’s 2008-2009 Annual Report, and Ryan was the primary photographer for the project (shooting the larger portraits for the features & interviews, as well a lot of acupuncture!) We have worked with OCOM for the past few years now and everyone–from the staff to the students–are always a pleasure to photograph. Plus, we have learned a bit about acupuncture and Chinese medicine through the process! For this project we had the opportunity to photograph businesses and individuals throughout the local community who are connected with OCOM. Check out the report by clicking the link below, and read a few of the testimonials–if you are ever in need of acupuncture, or just want to try it, their clinic is a great resource!
Even under the sometime-rainy skies of Portland, pedicabs are a great way to get around town on your wedding day! If you are planning a downtown wedding, consider using pedicabs for your own transportation or even for your guests. They give a great look to your photos, and can help maximize your time giving you more options for locations!
Taking full advantage of the lovely weather, we recently met up with Kristin & David for a shoot down on Portland’s riverfront. They were true naturals in front of the camera, and we had a blast. Thanks Kristin & David, we are looking forward to your wedding in May!
If you are a faithful reader of our blog, you will have noticed a serious lack of content during late summer and early fall. Rest assured, we are still taking photos! We have had the opportunity to work with a lot of amazing couples this summer and are excited to share the images with you, however late they may be in arriving to the blog.
Brandi and Kyle were married in Portland this September, with one of the most unique ceremonies we have ever experienced! I’m sure if we lived in Las Vegas we would see this a lot more, but this just happened to be our first time shooting with Elvis as the officiant. “Elvis” was actually a dear friend of the bride and groom and not some impersonal impersonating imposter! This wedding was full of funky personal touches, emphasizing their amazing personalities. Kyle and Brandi put a lot of thought and planning into making their day a wedding like no other. Thank you for making us a part of it!
Last month, we headed to Portland’s very own (and stripped-down) version of Coney Island–Oaks Park. Complete with rickety rides, scary ride operators, and challenging games of “skill” along the midway Oaks Park is mildly surreal as it is completely different from any other place in Portland. It also turned out to be a refreshingly fun location for a pre-wedding shoot with James and Whitney. I have to hand it to Whitney–this was all her idea and we think it turned out great! The colors, crazy-carnival vibe, and joy of this couple combined to make this a very unique shoot. I’d also like to give a quick shoutout to the guy that let me inside the throwing game booth, and the merry-go-round operator who let me step and climb all over the horses while it was moving and full of people–many thanks!
These two are self-proclaimed fierce competitors with each other. Turns out that Whitney is the better shot!
Doing my best to think thin and hide behind James in the mirror on the right.
The one on the right is my all-time favorite. I can’t help but crack-up every time I look at this. I think Whitney got her face stuck here–and check out the crazy anthropomorphic hot-dogs underneath James. Yikes!
James was successful at knocking down all those cans and scored this sweet monkey.
