Danielle + Marty / Mt. Hood Silcox Hut Wedding

0 Comments/ in Silcox Hut Wedding Photographs, weddings / by Ryan

Being avid snowboarders from sunny San Diego, Danielle & Marty loved the thought of getting married on a snowy mountain. Silcox Hut on Mt. Hood perfectly matched the bill. Their mountainside ceremony was an intimate affair with friends and family who had gathered there to spend the weekend playing on the mountain & celebrating with them.  Danielle was dazzling in her gold (!) dress (Marty didn’t look too shabby either). It’s really refreshing to see a bride veer from the norm for a unique look–well done!

There were a few touches of green at Vivian & Brian’s St. Patricks Day wedding, but mostly just radiant blue & sparkling white.

A clear December evening in a cozy cabin with the mountain to yourselves. Winter weddings in the Northwest don’t get much better than this! Shot on Mt. Hood at the Silcox Hut above Timberline Lodge.

Kim + Dan / Mt. Hood Silcox Hut Wedding

0 Comments/ in Silcox Hut Wedding Photographs, weddings / by Ryan

It’s full-on Spring here in Portland, but there is still plenty of snow up in the mountains and we have a few more white winter weddings to blog! In February, we had the honor of photographing Kim & Dan’s wedding at the Silcox Hut above Mt. Hood’s Timberline Lodge. The joy of this ebulliently fun couple is so contagious, we couldn’t help but smile the entire day. The little details also really shined through from the fondant mushrooms & truffles on the cake to the acorn and squirrel logo accompanied by the saying, “even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes.” (Although, they never did explain which of them is the blind squirrel & which is the acorn…) Truer words have never been spoken, and we are so glad that Kim & Dan found each other and chose us to document this day!

Talia + Pro / Mt. Hood Silcox Hut Wedding

1 Comment/ in Silcox Hut Wedding Photographs, weddings / by Ryan

Talia & Pro were blessed with some of the most beautiful January weather in recent memory for their wedding day. Weather won’t make or break your wedding day, but such gorgeous weather is especially appreciated when your wedding takes place at 7,000 ft. on the side of Mt. Hood in the middle of winter! With mild temperatures & windless blue skies we were able to spend a lot of time outside on the snowy slopes. Once the sun set, everyone gathered in the Silcox Hut to celebrate this beautiful couple!

Molly + Tyler / Mt. Hood Silcox Hut Wedding

1 Comment/ in Silcox Hut Wedding Photographs, weddings / by Ryan

Over the past year, we have had the opportunity to shoot a number of weddings at the Silcox Hut on Mt. Hood. The uniqueness of this venue seems to be a magnet for fabulous weddings that share a similar recipe of wonderful people, intimate ceremonies, and charming, thoughtful details.  Molly & Tyler’s February wedding definitely fit the bill! Some of their stand-out details included Molly wearing her grandmother’s fur wrap (which came in very handy for those outdoor photos!), cowbells for the guests to ring for after their first-kiss (a nod to the bride’s ski-racing days), and delicious macaroons  nestled in individual glass jars at each place setting.

The intimacy of Silcox Hut is palpable, with everyone present feeling like an honored guest. It is hard to describe the feeling of a small group of family and friends gathered cozily together on the side of a mountain to celebrate a couple’s love and commitment to each other.  We hope these photos capture a bit of that essence. Molly & Tyler explained it well when, making a toast to their guests at the evening’s end, they stated that everyone present was there for a reason and that they looked forward those continued relationships as they begin this new chapter in their lives together.  It is a sentiment shared at many weddings, yet feels particularly genuine in this spectacular setting.

Molly + Tyler // Preview

0 Comments/ in weddings / by Ryan

It is almost time to share another gorgeous winter wedding on Mt. Hood at the Silcox Hut! Here is a quick preview of a few of the many amazing aspects of Molly & Tyler’s celebration.  It was a bit cold and windy (ok, it was really cold and windy–my fingers went numb quickly!), but the sun was shining and we just had to get outside for a few photos. The ceremony ended just before sunset, as we rushed outside to capture an image with this beautiful couple on top of the world!

Engagement Session | Miki + Martin

1 Comment/ in engagement, oregon / by Ryan

Martin & Miki wanted to take full advantage of sunny spring skies and ample snow on Mt. Hood for their engagement session. They were not disappointed! We had a great time with them and had a lot of fun at two beautiful locations.  We started off at Trillium Lake with a beautiful view of the mountain. After hiking around the lake a bit, we made our way up to Timberline Lodge to enjoy the evening light. Martin and Miki were tough as they trekked over the snow above the lodge in their sandals! We definitely appreciate it when couples we work with make that extra effort for an amazing photo–thanks guys! We are looking forward to an awesome wedding this summer!

Spring Traditions

1 Comment/ in adventure, ski / by Ryan

This post may seem a little off-topic, but it is our hope that you can get a glimpse of what we love to do in addition to our wedding and portrait work. We have had a number of adventures over the past few months that we are excited to share!  Our travel and adventure blog has been on a hiatus for a few months, so until that becomes operational again, we will be sharing some adventures with you here. Enjoy!

For backcountry skiers in the Portland/Vancouver area, the transition from Winter to Spring brings a wealth of ski opportunities. The height of the Cascade volcanoes and a generally plentiful snowpack translates to skiing well into the early months of summer. For me, this usually includes a trip up Mt. St. Helens in addition to other forays into the alpine. Saturday was a beautiful day to get out on the mountain. Click the image at right, taken looking north into the crater from the summit rim, to view images of the ride down!
