A few favorites from a recent engagement session in and around Portland’s Forest Park with Kasey, Jeff, & their dog Kenzie.
What a day for a sunny springtime wedding! Michal and Bryant were married at Portland’s Columbia Edgewater Country Club. This was one of the most boisterous group of guys we have photographed in a while! Despite the groomsmen’s antics, Michal glowed with a graceful beauty the entire day. The day was also full of surprises including a mariachi band, dart-gun ambush on the dance-floor, and Bryant’s spontaneous rendition of Prince’s Kiss (thankfully, not at the same time)!
Sauvie Island in the springtime is one of our favorite locations for gorgeous light & lush green fields. Getting to know Erin & Jasen and seeing their relaxed fun-loving nature together, in addition to the stellar location, made for a seriously memorable evening & some great photos!
Kristin & Tim were married on a typical (translation: slightly drizzly, yet still beautiful) Spring day in the northwest at the Columbia River Yacht Club. The sparse drops of rain were accompanied by some beautiful light, and we are so glad this couple were all for going outside and taking a quick walk around the docks after the ceremony. We photographed Kristin’s cousin’s wedding a few years ago, and were reminded just how well this family celebrates! They danced the night away with every generation taking part in the limbo that spontaneously erupted on the dance-floor at the end of the evening.
Nicole & Barney are planning an August wedding on his family’s grass-seed farm in the Willamette Valley. It seemed natural to shoot their engagement photos there as well, given that the place is huge and there is no way we could take full advantage of all it has to offer on the day of the wedding. Enjoying a quiet evening outside the city for this shoot was so refreshing! We can’t wait to be back to capture their wedding in this gorgeous setting.
We had a fantastic time shooting with Amanda & Daniel on this glorious Spring day–showcasing the Pacific Northwest at it’s best: rocky beaches, forests, blossoms galore, and SUN!
It doesn’t get much better than a spring evening on Sauvie Island outside of Portland! We often will head out to Sauvie’s at this time of year for an impromptu picnic, a quick hike, or just to catch the sunset. It’s a gorgeous escape from the city just outside the door! Erin and Joe thought it would make a great location for their engagement session, since her grandparents lived there during her childhood. We had an awesome time walking along the beach, watching the sunset over the green fields, and enjoying some wine with this fun couple. Erin & Joe, thank you for a great evening. We are looking forward to your wedding next month!
As the days get longer, we get more & more excited about extended evening light and more opportunities for shooting outside (in addition to warmer weather, all the amazing plants in bloom and garden vegetables starting to take root)! One look at our calendar and it’s clear to see–it is prime-time for Engagement Sessions.
For many, this name is a bit confusing. True, you are more than likely already engaged if you are booking photography for your wedding and an “engagement” session may sound a bit anticlimactic. We even tried to avoid the term for a while, but it has such wide recognition that it looks like it is here to stay. It could just as easily be called a get-to-know-you session or a have-an-awesome-time-in-a-really-cool-place-while-capturing-your-personality-in-photos session. Regardless of terminology, we look forward to this session with each couple we work with! It is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know you more and discover all the qualities that make your relationship unique. Plus, you’ll end up with some great relaxed portraits from just being yourselves and enjoying each other.
There is no shortage of awesome locations in the Northwest for your session, and we highly encourage you to do a little brainstorming and be as creative as you want when choosing your location. Of course, we are happy to make some suggestions too! We recently updated our portfolio site with a new engagement gallery to get those creative juices flowing.
